From doing this project I have come across a lot of opinions on social media and being online. A lot of people believe this to be the case such as Rebekah Olsen as she states from her article on Good choices Good life website that “it‘s easy to tune ou the real world” and become ’absorbed’ in this world. She also states that from a number of reports teenagers spend more time online than the older population. However, todays teenagers have grown up with social media and being online, social media is their life. www.goodchoicesgoodlife.org/choices-for-real-life-real-living/why-social-media-is-bad-for-your-social-life/

some people even say that being online too often and affect a persons mental health like Dr. Mathew, MD says that “too much computers time can increase your anxiety.” he also talks about spending too much time on social media can have an impact on the ‘psyche’ from a number of studies he says “excessive social media use can lead to depression and dependency in some people.“ I believe he has a point but I think that for this to happen you would have to be spending lots of time checking social media and spending a lot of time following other people lives, whcih he believes can cause low self-esteem. I do believe this to be true froma personal perspective as looking at peoples Instagram and seeing people having better bodies than me and a better lifestyle has made me envy them. However, this is something I don’t dwell on as I know that is someone else’s life and it’s only a picture and I actually don’t know anything about that persons life. He also believes that “excessive phone and computer use can affect your sleep” Dr. Mathew.MD explains that the bright light which a computer makes or a phone can stop melatonin which is the hormone that helps people sleep. I do agree with Dr. Mathew as I personal have struggled to sleep when for example watching my tablet at night. But I do know when my limit is and when to turn it off. I suppose some people don’t know their limit and this can have a great impact on their mental health but I do believe that this does not happen to everyone but I can see why spending an unhealthy amount of time online can have an impact on a persons life. https://www.piedmont.org/living-better/how-the-internet-affects-your-mental-health
